Haiti Adoptive Families & Orphan Database
from www.jcics.org
Haiti Adoptive Families & Orphan Database
Thank you for helping adoptive families register with our Haiti Adoptive Families & Orphan Database. To date we have over 250 families registered. Please continue to publicize the database, even if you are not directly involved with Haiti. The wider the message is distributed the more families we will ultimately reach. The database allows us to keep the families and our government updated on the latest information and how the ongoing efforts effect the children we all serve.
By sharing information on your adoption, Joint Council and various agencies within the U.S. government will be able to provide emergency assistance to orphanages and to assist in uniting you with the child you are adopting.

Humanitarian Parole
from http://www.jcics.org/Haiti.htm
Humanitarian Parole
It is Joint Council’s position that the U.S. government should immediately grant humanitarian parole to all children being adopted by U.S. citizens. At present, Joint Council is appealing with the U.S. government, specifically the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), to issue humanitarian parole for any child that has been referred to an American family. Humanitarian parole, if granted, would eliminate the need for a visa. Humanitarian parole would also minimize the paperwork and possibly eliminate the need to find documents, which have been destroyed in the earthquake. Given the urgent needs of the children, the fact that the Haitian government has lifted all exit requirements and that the children have adoptive families, we believe that humanitarian parole is the most humane solution to this crisis. Please note that Joint Council has not received confirmation for humanitarian parole but we are working diligently towards that end. When and if humanitarian parole is granted, we will publish the information widely.
From our many, many meetings with Members of Congress, the Department of State and the Department of Homeland Security, you should know that your government is working diligently and with great compassion to find a solution which will help get the children into safe, permanent and loving families as quickly as possible.

Visas for Adoptive Children from JCICS
We continue to receive information and questions regarding the departure from Haiti of 150 orphan children from the BRESMA orphanage. Through conversation with the BRESMA program directors and government officials, we can again confirm that this is not the case.
However, we can confirm that approximately 17 U.S. families who were adopting Haitian orphans, were in Port au Prince at the time of the earthquake and had completed their adoptions, have received visas for their children to enter the U.S. An additional 5 children whose adoptive parents were scheduled to travel this past week and whose paperwork had previously been submitted to the U.S. Embassy, have received visas.
We continue to work with adoptive families to determine if their adoption is eligible for the issuance of a visa and are coordinating these efforts with the U.S. government.
For those who are not eligible, we continue to work towards the granting of humanitarian parole. This would allow the vast majority of children referred to families, to enter the U.S.

Ambassadors of Jesus (update) - Commenter shared the following: I called Glenn Alexander who is one of our locals I interviewed in my story and have some news for you. He received a call from the orphanage (Ambassadors of Jesus) today and all of the children are well. He said the back wall of the orphanage was lost --it fell down. He spoke with Pastor Lucian's brother, Dominic, briefly but there was a problem with the call. Dominic, he said, will call him back this afternoon since it's easier for Dominic to call here then the other way around. Glenn said he will let me know if he hears news of Lucian.
Angel House (PAP) - Carpenter said a “good portion” of a house for handicapped boys and adults collapsed, as did the orphanage’s new surgery center. Fortunately, all of the boys were safe."

Holy Angels Hospice & Orphanage - status unknown - a home for terminally ill and disabled children, on Rue Refuge in LaPlain, outside Port-au-Prince. Director is Jean Pascal, and the founder is our friend Fr. Tony Cortesi (who is in hospital in the U.S.). Any information about the children or workers would be greatly appreciated.
H.O.P.E. Center - run by CSI Ministries all 20 children alive, some children with minor injuries (cuts, bumps, bruises) but major damage to the orphanage. The 20 girls they care for, mostly between the ages of 3 and 5, came out of the disaster with "a few minor cuts, bumps and bruises." "But structurally, we have some major damage," he said, adding that the two long perimeter walls of the rectangular-shaped building completely collapsed in the quake. "There's obviously some interior rooms standing and the rest of it's gone."

Foyer de Filles de Dieu
update provided by Mark & Christy Dullity (mdutilly@msn.com)
I'm afraid the news I have is not good. This posted on our chirch website regarding the orphanage. It is from Paula the director in Haiti:
OUR GIRLS AT THE FOYER FOLLOWING THE EARTHQUAKE
For two days we were unable to make any contact at all with the Foyer or receive news of our girls. This morning we learned some very sad, very preliminary news: Five of our girls have been killed. At this point we do not know about the extent of injuries. We only know that the building is damaged to the point where the girls cannot live there. The adjoining clinic is still standing and is mobbed with people needing medical care.
Paula was en route to her home at the time the earthquake struck and arrived to see the walls and roof shaking. Later it was observed that all the windows had been broken. Only today is she able to work her way down to the Foyer, extremely difficult because of the damaged roads, debris, and chaos.
The cook at the orphanage, Kestner, lived some distance from the home with his wife and two children. Kestner’s home is destroyed, his family was killed and Kestner is currently among the missing.
We grieve as a parish family as we mourn the loss of life and the suffering of our extended family in Haiti and the trauma the thousands upon thousands of people in Port-au-Prince are enduring. So many of you have called, all of us are praying in solidarity with the people of Haiti. For the first time in our years of twinning with Haiti, we find we are now faced with this tragedy of epoch proportion and an unknown future, something the people of Haiti are used to bearing through hundreds of years of suffering. They have always had a naked faith in God.
Let us draw strength from our Haitian sisters and brothers and each other and trust in the mercy of God to see us through. As stated at the beginning, this is very preliminary. As Paula may be able to tell us more and as we learn more how the girls are existing and coping, we will keep you informed.
